Vision and Values

Our Vision
Victorian College for the Deaf is committed to the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework. This is a school-wide process for developing and explicitly teaching appropriate and positive behaviours which aim to improve educational and behaviour outcomes for all students. The SWPBS framework is founded on a positive approach to whole school wellbeing with targeted approaches for students with higher levels of need.

Our values

The VCD community values of Learning, Resilience, Respect, Responsibility and Pride underpin an innovative curriculum that challenges and excites all learners so that they acquire the skills and knowledge to achieve their personal best, personally, academically and as members of  three Deaf, Hard of hearing and hearing communities.


Our Guiding Principles

The College is committed to a bilingual philosophy of teaching through Auslan and English as the second language. It is committed to the development of intellectual, academic and social learning to foster independence and individuality. This is achieved through the framework of AusVELS; the Foundation (prep) to Year 10 curriculum that provides a single, coherent and comprehensive set of prescribed content and common achievement standards, which schools use to plan student learning programs, assess student progress and report to parents.


Our Wellbeing

Positive interpersonal relationships are developed between students, teachers and parents. A student well-being coordinator provides support to students, staff and parents as well as personal development programs for students. A psychologist is employed at the school one day per week. Students have access to a range of support services are effectively used to improve student-learning outcomes and facilitate home-school communication links.
